Hope is the thing with feathers [book review]

Informally Refereed

Abstract

Hope Is the Thing with Feathers, written by Christopher Cokinos, presents accounts of the lives and deaths of six extinct species (or races) of North American birds: Carolina parakeet, ivory-billed woodpecker, heath hen, passenger pigeon, Labrador duck, and the great auk. The message of Cokinos’ book is that we must do more than hope; we must act to prevent the extinction of the species we still have. An important step in this process is remembering the species and learning from the mistakes that led to their extinction.
